:. Ready for ‘sincere’ talks: Mirwaiz

Marouf Ahmad

Srinagar: Stating that participation of India, Islamabad, Muzaffarabad and people of Kashmir was imperative for resolution of Kashmir, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, chairman of his faction of Hurriyat Conference Friday announced readiness for “sincere and meaningful” talks with New Delhi.

“Hurriyat Conference believes in talks but it should be sincere and meaningful for resolving Kashmir. Government of India should come up with concrete and lucid policy, clear from any confusion for there have been variances in the statements between Indian Home Minister and its foreign Minister,” Mirwaiz Umar Farooq told a Friday congregation at historic Jamia Masjid in old city’s Nowahata area here.

“We have in mind to proceed in phased manner and strongly believe that no dialogue would be consequential until the six point proposal by the Hurriyat Conference was adhered on ground to pave way for the talks,” he added.

Among the six point charter, the amalgam, demands revoking of all ‘draconian laws”, unconditional release of all detainees and withdrawal of troops from the state.

In a direct reference to chairman of the other faction of Hurriyat Conference, Syed Ali Shah Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq said that there was “no breach in mutual agreement of last year.”

“Hurriyat Conference wants to clarify to Mr Syed Ali Shah Geelani that amalgam stands by the agreement of last year for we are a constitution and there was no question of any amendments or alterations. We stand by the basic principle that ‘Right to Self Determination’ is basis for resolution of Kashmir and the issue would be resolved only after all the three parties to dispute agree” he said, adding, “We believe that Kashmir issue can’t be resolved through bilateral talks but dialogue remains the only option and as such we have taken the triangular way of talks with India as well as Pakistan so as to pave way for tripartite talks.”

The Hurriyat Conference (M) chairman, who is also the Mirwaiz (head cleric) of the valley, also emphasized importance of “taking everyone on board” and asserted that the participation of India, Islamabad, Muzaffarabad and people of Kashmir was imperative for resolution of Kashmir.

“The Hurriyat Conference believes in carrying everyone with it for the issue does to pertain to a single person but entire nation and considering wishes and aspirations of the people, we will talk to both countries (India and Pakistan) for perpetual solution of Kashmir issue,” he added.

Mirwaiz, who recently retuned from United State, also claimed that “world has a great feel” for resolving Kashmir issue.

He also announced to continue with the endeavor of unity among the “pro-freedom” leadership. “I want to tell everyone that attitude of oneness would take us nowhere and we together have to look for an acceptable way forward for achieving our goal,” he said, resolving to proceed with talks with the “sole aim of right to self determination.” The Hurriyat conference chairman also reiterated his invitation to mainstream politicians and asked them join the amalgam ranks “if they have feel about the pain of people in their hearts.”

The Hurriyat conference also passed a seven pint resolution before the people. (PBI)
