Srinagar: A team of French Army including military experts in the field of counter terrorism completed its six day visit to Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday.
The French delegation was briefed on the Army’s strategies to tackle militancy in the state during their visit to the Battle Schools under Udhampur-based Northern Command and Srinagar.
“During their visit to Northern Command Corps Battle Schools at Sarol Rajouri, Khreuh and Srinagar, French delegation was briefed in detail about the various functional, training and administrative aspects of battle craft and tactical drills being imparted to the troops to cope up with the challenges of militancy in the state,” KS Rathi, defence ministry spokesman (officiating) of Northern Command told Press Bureau of India in an official release.
The team arrived in the state on 16 November last.
“The French team was acquainted with methodology of conducting people friendly operations and ensuring Human Rights in the conduct of counter insurgency operations,” he added.
The visit, he said, was a part of the implementation plan for the defence cooperation and exchanges of army with the French counterparts.
The French army delegation’s visit comes in the backdrop of recent visits of top army officials from various others countries including overt visit of Australian Army Chief, Lt. Gen. Ken J. Gillespie, in October last and furtive trips of US and Israeli army officials to the state.
Prior to the trip of Australian army chief, there were reports that Israeli Army chief, Avi Mizrahi visited Akhnoor Military base in September. Besides, some reports suggest the visit of US army chief to the state. However, army later denied such reports. (PBI)
