Srinagar: In a bid to diffuse the crisis within the conglomerate, Hurriyat Conference (M) suspended its General and executive council on Monday.
Reports reaching Press Bureau of India said that the Hurriyat Conference (M) executive council that met on Monday with Chairman, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq in chair unanimously decided to suspend its General council and executive council until restructured.
The meeting that was attended by executive committee members Professor Abdul Gani Bhat, Bilal Gani Lone, Shabir Ahmad Shah, Fazal Haq Qureshi, Aga Syed Hassan Al-Moosvi Al-Safvi, Molvi Abbas Ansari and Mukhtar Ahmad Waza also condemned the statements issued against the pro-freedom conglomerate.
The executive committee members authorized Mirwaiz to take the necessary steps to maintain discipline and instruct the Hurriyat constituents not to resort to anti-conglomerate activities. Mirwaiz was also authorized to restructure the pro-freedom conglomerate.
The suspension of General council and executive council comes in wake of the 3-day meeting that was held here as all the Hurriyat constituents participated in the meeting.
Pertinently, the separatist Hurriyat (M) was under constant pressure after its leadership showed an inclination to hold talks with New Delhi and continued to be involved in track two diplomacy.
“We not only want completely harmony among executive, general council and the working committee of the Hurriyat but also desire concord with other leaders and organizations outside it, so as to formulate joint strategy for resolution of Kashmir issue in accordance with the wishes and aspirations of the people,” Mirwaiz Omar Farooq said while addressing a congregation at historic Jamia Masjid on Friday.
Mirwaiz’s statement came a day after marathon executive council witnessed discord among various executive members on dialogue with New Delhi, particularly “quite diplomacy”.
The executive meeting, which spanned over five hours, remained inconclusive over the talks and the amalgam even delayed naming the team for upcoming visit to Pakistan.
“There is a daring need that we all should stop accusing and resort to mud-slinging. We need to exhibit sincerity at this crucial juncture,” he said, adding, “There is a need to get our act together and announce such a strategy that embodies wishes and aspirations of the people of Jammu and Kashmir,” Mirwaiz said in his address.
