Srinagar: Hurriyat Conference led by Syed Ali Shah Geelani Wednesday said that there was no change in the mindset of New Delhi over Kashmir, insisting that buzz about talks was mere ploy to ‘pass time.’
“Hurriyat Conference believes that hitherto there has been no change in the attitude of India with regard to Kashmir. By creating air about talks, it wants to pass time so that in this world of unexpected happenings, there is any episode which enables it to turn the attention of international community and then buy more time about the issue,” Syed Ali Geelani, said in a statement to Press Bureau of India after amalgam’s executive meeting here.
He said that recent interview of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh with CNN has elucidate the fact that the recent “soft” statements by its Home Minister Chidambaram were mere ‘trick’ to entice the leadership in the disguise of “well crafted words.”
The meeting worked out that New Delhi wants to maintain status quo on Kashmir. “The talks offer is nothing but deviate international community and busy leadership in futile talks,” he said.
“Hurriyat Conference is not against dialogue in principle and our party is not a separate entity which continues to refuse talks irrespective of the situation. When there is any visible change in New Delhi’s policy, our party has the capability to respond,” he added.
The Hurriyat Conference, he said, believes that at this juncture of time, all the leadership should exhibit a joint strategy.
“Hurriyat Conference believes that separate statements were causing damage to the ongoing struggle,” he said.
The amalgam also extended invitation to all the pro-freedom as well as mainstream politicians to join them for “right to self determination”.
“To save the future generations of the present day atrocities, we all should exhibit unity and raise single slogan of right to self determination,” he added.
The Hurriyat chairman also expressed surprise over the recent statement by European delegation, terming the Jammu and Kashmir as integral part of India.
“The statement is in itself a contradiction with their statement of 2004,” he said. (PBI)
